Scammers can spoof an official phone number; here is what to look out for

Is That Phone Call From Your Bank or a Scammer? Here's How to Tell.

Scammers can be convincing, even making it look like they're calling from your bank. Here's what you need to know to protect yourself:
Your Bank Will Not Ask for Personal Information: BNC National Bank (and most legitimate banks) will never call and ask for sensitive details they already have. This includes your:
  • Account number
  • Social security number
  • Login passwords or codes
  • Debit card number, PIN, or expiration date
  • Any other personal information

  • Don't Trust Caller ID: Scammers use "phone number spoofing" to make their calls appear to come from official numbers, including your bank's customer service.
  • When in Doubt, Hang Up: If you're suspicious, end the call and contact your bank directly using a number you know is legitimate (e.g., from their official website or the back of your card).

Have You Spotted a Scam?

Your report can help stop scammers. If you receive a suspicious call or text, contact your bank and provide as much detail as possible, including:
  • Date and time of the call/text
  • The name and department the scammer used
  • What they asked you to do, pay, or share
  • The exact number displayed on your caller ID
